From the 1960's the blind who had settled in Lenasia were denied of any social welfare services for their well being. The late Mr A R Mia, who was an active community member prior to his blindness, because aware of the plight of the neglected blind persons in Lenasia.
An office was occupied at the Old Post office building to conduct the affairs of the sub-committee. With the appointment of Miss A Mistry as a social worker by the Association much assistance became available to the blind.
